One Number Off
I was giving a student the name and number of my Chiropractor (listed in my Top Picks), but didn’t have my Blackberry with me so I guessed his number off the top of my head. Later, as Philippe looked Mika’s number up online, we discovered that I had been “almost right”—I was “only” one number off.
My student laughed and said “Well, you were close—only one number off,” to which I replied “But that’s all it takes…I got 9 numbers right out of 10, but you never would’ve reached Mika. Think about that. You have to be so specific.”
That’s how technology is. One slash off and you won’t make it to Pranapoweryoga.com, one number off and you won’t reach Mika to make an appointment. For all the amazing things that technology gives us and for which I am so grateful, it does require absolute specificity.
Not so with the Universe. You don’t have to be so specific/so exact when you are asking for what you want in this lifetime/this day/this moment. All you need to do is give a clear indication of the essence of what it is that you want. And then let the Universe take care of the rest. It always does a better job than we ever do.
So what is the essence of what you want? How does it make you feel? Why is it that you want it? How will you/your life be different once you have it?
Once you have clear answers to all of these questions, visualize what you want—get a very clear picture–and then let go. Relax and have faith. Faith simply means believing that this will happen. It means knowing it will. And then letting go—not worrying about it. Because once you worry, then you’ve lost the faith and the positive energy with which you create.
It may sound tricky or confusing but I promise you, it will all be clear if you practice yoga on a regular basis. Your yoga practice will systematically remove blockages of energy–also known as fear–which will then allow you to easily and joyfully manifest whatever you want. Because without the energy blockages (fear), you will have the faith and joy that you were born with. That we were all born with. And that we all deserve.

ps. here is an inspirational quote from abraham:
“What anyone else has or does not have has nothing to do with you. The only thing that affects your experience is the way you utilize the Non-Physical Energy with your thought. Your abundance or lack of it in your experience has nothing to do with what anybody else is doing or having. It has only to do with your perspective. It has only to do with your offering of thought. If you want fortunes to shift, you have to begin telling a different story.”
and more on topic….yes, that is SO true about discovering the essence “getting to the feeling place” as good ol’ Abe says.
ie — i have always been “indecisive” and this put me into a bad feeling place…..so one day i recognized that and i said — ok, well what DO i want? what do i KNOW that i want? and i began to focus on the parts of my dreams that i knew that i wanted — even if all the details were not filled in. ie — i might not have known my career — but i know i want to be of service, work from home, make my own schedule, travel, be a mom 1st and foremost, etc — i let the universe fill in the details, and the universe always does it way better than i could have imagined myself!
i always tell my son he is so much more amazing than i could have ever dreamed myself — even though i knew i wanted a blond haired boy with my eyes and his father’s feet! (yes – he does have them…)
and as a bonus from all this — i no longer beat myself up for indecisiveness — in fact now i say that i don’t make decisions at all — they make themselves!

as usual, the abraham quote of the day is right on target:
Anything that brings you to a decision will be answered. The stronger the decision is, the faster it’s answered. So if you’re in a situation where it seems life or death, and the desire is strong, it is answered now, because it must be answered now to be answered at all.

Taylor,
Isn’t it interesting how when the Universe DOES provide repeated messages to us if we are open to them? Your post is very similar to the messages I recieved this weekend when reading Wayne Dyer’s ‘Inspiration: Your Ultimate Calling’. I find it difficult to let go of my Ego and just ALLOW the gifts to come my way. I have been trying to repeat the mantra, “What you desire is on it’s way” to myself.
My question for you (sort of unrelated!). I am really looking forward to starting yoga to open myself even more, but am 32 weeks pregnant. How long would you suggest I wait after giving birth to begin (safely)?
Thanks~

Thanks Supermom Shanti for all the wisdom, love, and Abraham!
Just listened to her while I practiced and read my hand-written affirmation cards.
She has such a great sense of humor–love her!
Have the best day ever!

Hi Supermom Sher,
I wrote you a long response and then our power went out and it was lost.
CONGRATULATIONS!
Enjoy this magical and miraculous time.
8 weeks to go Sister!
Yes, it is interesting that our ability to “take in” the gifts/messages/clarity from the Universe is always changing.
I find that when I listen to Abraham-hicks CD’s.
I keep them and listen to them over and over again, because each time I hear something different/learn something more.
Because each time I listen, I am in a different place re. “receiving.”
I find that my YOGA PRACTICE helps me to be much more receptive and “allowing.”
So I think it would be great for you to begin one after you have your little baby.
To be super conservative, wait three months before beginning PRANA POWER YOGA after you’ve given birth, if you’ve never done it before.
The most important thing is that you LISTEN TO YOUR BODY and honor what it’s telling you.
It’s super challenging for me to give “general” advice about what’s “safe” re. beginning a practice post-birth because everyone is so different and you’ll be different after you give birth.
So I’m being super-conservative.
You want to ease into anything new–never push.
Plus, you’ll be so wrapped up in your newborn and nursing (if you choose to nurse) and trying to get a little sleep, that time will fly by, believe me.
This all said, I actually pratice the day I deliver.
Right next to that hospital bed at the Mt Auburn Hospital.
This is after vaginal births, though, I would never do so after a C obviously.
But I’ve been practicing every day for many years, Sister.
My point in saying this is that everyone is so different and the nurses and midwives and docs at the hospital are always blown away when they walk in 3 hours after my birth and I”m in down-dog.
HUGE LOL!
If you could SEE their faces.
You need to listen to your body and it will guide you, but there is no need to push–you have your whole life to practice and you want to take it easy.
Maybe start in an hour of power class at PRANA and maybe even an unheated one.
Tell the instructor that you’re new and recently gave birth.
Rest in child’s pose a lot!
Don’t over due.
Then work up to a 75 m class and eventually a 90 m class, adding heat when it feels right.
You are going to LOVE this practice!
Congratulations and welcome to the best life ever!
Namaste!

Taylor,
I’ve been reading your blog for a few weeks now and want to thank you for the inspiration, experience, and encouragement that you send to all who read your blog. I have really benefited from it lately, and also from the yoga classes which I’ve been attending for some time now.
I’ve been going through a particularly trying time in my career, and also I’ve just gone through a very contentious divorce. Sometimes it’s hard to just make it through “one more day.” It’s a new experience for me, but lately, I’ve wanted to just go back to bed and forget about the rest of the day when things go wrong.
My boyfriend just sent me this wonderful quote that I am keeping with me today:
“The problematic situations in your life are not chance or haphazard. They are specifically yours, designed specifically by a part of you that loves you more than anything else. The part of you that loves you more than anything else has created roadblocks to lead you to yourself. Without something pricking you in the side saying ‘Look here! This way!’ you are not going to go in the right direction. ” A.H. Almaas
You know what’s exhausting about keeping true to yourself is that sometimes (I suppose it’s true for many, and for me now) you go through a period of intense upheaval and you need to make more than one major change. That’s really hard for me, so again, I really relish the encouragement you send out through your blog.
Thank you for all that you do. Kathy

Hey Taylor,
I love the blog! SO inspirational..but I must say in the face of disaster (Haiti) I am quite confused—the people of Haiti wished this upon themselves? I just can’t believe that.

I have to agree yoga gal….I am all for positive thinking and affirmation, however sometimes things just come to pass that good folks don’t need nor deserve…I could cite the zillion cases of unfairness, but that would serve no purpose. For me, I just have to have faith…in life, people the process, etc!

Dear Yogagal,
Thank you for your kind words about Super-mom.com and for raising again a very important question (a similar question was asked by Melissa in the Comments section of Top Ten Things I Won’t Do Again, Part 2—about “when bad things happen to good people–so for even more information, please read my response to Melissa in the archives).
I have been praying for the people of Haiti and would never say that anyone “wished tragedy upon himself or herself.”
What my teacher of Deliberate Creation, Abraham-Hicks, says about tragedies such as Haiti is that (this entire paragraph is a long quote from Abraham-hicks): “You all make too much out of ‘going back to pure positive energy.’ If you knew how wonderful it was, you wouldn’t give people the death penalty! All spirits are here on this Earth on their own time and for their own purposes and have their own plan—one you know nothing about–and when they pass away, all resistance is released in one instant and it’s all good! No, it’s wonderful. They go back to pure positive energy and then begin again—in another lifetime. Are we saying to go ‘end it all’ because it’s so great when you move on to another dimension? Of course not, what we are saying is that you’re here doing your thing and other humans are here doing their thing and what we see as humans as ‘tragedy’ is simply part of their life plan for this lifetime. It’s the epitome of empowerment.”
So, Yogagal, that is what Abraham (Abraham-hicks.com) says about tragedies like Haiti when her many students ask (and oh boy, do they, as well they should). That was an exact excerpt from one of her workshops. I have many of them on CD and listen to them daily.
I think that what Abraham-hicks is saying is that we as humans can’t really even comprehend the choices that our Spirits make because it’s on a whole different level than the level on which we operate. I think she’s saying that you can’t collapse the Spiritual dimension into the human dimension and when you do it, things don’t make sense, because they aren’t accessible from our intellect. Hence, “why would a human being ask to have a tragedy like Haiti happen to him/herself?” seems the unanswerable question. I believe Abraham is saying that the more you try to explain, the more it doesn’t make sense, because we are operating on a totally different level.
I always listen intently to what Abraham-hicks is saying when she answers questions about tragedies like earth quakes, floods, hurricanes, child abuse in all of its ugly forms, loss of loved ones, death (or “croaking” as she irreverently calls it—on purpose) of loved ones/children, and on and on it goes.
Because when I personally hear about a tragedy, I feel it to my core and immediately begin praying and sending light. I’ve been known to burst into tears on the spot as well, as I truly feel the energy and pain and have so much sorrow for those affected.
So I hear you.
And as Chrissy says, “I am all for positive thinking and affirmation, however sometimes things just come to pass that good folks don’t need nor deserve…I could cite the zillion cases of unfairness, but that would serve no purpose. For me, I just have to have faith…in life, people the process, etc!”
Which is actually very Abraham-esque–choosing NOT to cite the zillion cases of unfairness (and therefore, draw that energy and vibration to you) and instead to focus on the light and have faith (and draw that energy to you).
It’s NOT advocating denial and a lack of support or respect for the pain others endure.
NOT ignoring other peoples’ pain and choosing not to help in any way you can.
Instead, it’s living a life of service to others at all times—in times of tragedy and in times of “normal life”—and doing your best to help others in all instances, while maintaining a focus on the light, not the dark side.
I lived a few years of my life very, very angry at the injustice that I endured for the first 17 years of my life, and Sister, I’m here to tell you, it didn’t bode well for me.
But I needed that time of letting go and being REALLY ANGRY and disillusioned.
So I took it.
But then I learned about The Law Of Attraction and learned that the way I could be most of service to others (and myself) is to have faith and keep my eye on the light—and spread it.
I’d like to end by asking that if you are reading this, you close your eyes and take a minute of silence to send light to all of those in Haiti who need your love, support, and good energy.
Namaste.

Hi Kathy,
Thank you for your kind words about Super-mom.com. I’m so glad that you’ve benefited from it lately and also from your yoga practice. That’s what it’s all about, Sister, and why we opened Prana Power Yoga and The Prana Café, and why I started Super-mom.com two years ago this May.
I’m so sorry that you’ve been going through a particularly trying time in your career and that you’ve just gone through a very contentious divorce.
Girl, I so know the feeling of it being difficult to “just” make it through one more day and not even want to get out of bed in the morning. I’ve had periods in my life like this and it’s just awful.
I love the quote that your boyfriend sent you. I totally agree with its wisdom.
Maya Angelou says that when she is in a time like the one you are describing, she first says THANK YOU to The Universe, because she knows—she’s learned through a lot of experience—that after going through this difficult time, she’ll be in a higher/better place.
I also do this when I’m in pain.
I also ask my higher self/Spirit and The Universe “What’s the lesson here? What do I need to learn? What do I need to do differently?”
And then I get quiet and wait…wait for the answer.
And it always comes.
Kathy, I know it’s tough that during times of intense upheaval, as you describe, you may need to make more than one major change. I understand why that’s challenging for you but remember, we all learn from PRACTICE, and you are practicing flowing with change and with each change, you get better at it and it becomes EASIER.
Also, if you are feeling resistance with making many changes at once, be gentle with yourself. Tell your Spirit that you have all the time that you need and you can take it easy and take it slowly–one change at a time. It may be your mental body (your mind) that is making deadlines regarding when/how you need to change. Ask your Spirit when and how, and follow that—and your heart.
It is always RIGHT ON.
I know that I don’t know your exact situation and I’m not living in your shoes right now and these are just general suggestions; however, I hope that they are helpful and remember, take what you want (what fits for you right now) and leave the rest.
Most of all, breathe, get on your mat A LOT during this time (when I went through my divorce I practiced every single day—not necessarily at a studio but always got on my mat—and sometimes TWICE a day—LOL—because sometimes that was the only place I felt calm and at peace with all that was hitting the fan around me), and put as many healthy, high vibration, raw foods into your body as you can (thepranacafe.com is a good resource).
I highly recommend green juice and/or wheatgrass shots. I personally choke down a double wheat grass shot at The Prana Café’ daily because I know how much energy and life force and joy they give me, even though the twin boys in my belly aren’t fond of the taste.
LOL!
Take good care Kathy.
I’m rootin’ for ya and sending you light, from one Sister to another.
Namaste,
Taylor

Taylor,
Thank you for such a beautiful response! I will try to follow your wonderful advice, especially the wheatgrass which I’ve never tried.
But first I’m going to watch some TV (just kidding!).
Thanks again for sending your light out to all who choose to see it.

HUGE LOL Kathy!
(about the TV)
You cracked me up.
Namaste!
ps Wheat grass rocks. Nothing like it. Just chase it with something (I find the taste kinda yuck–but who knows, you may love it!).
